Alex North is an American composer and jazz musician who was active from 1910 to 1991. He is best known for his extensive work in film scores, including A Streetcar Named Desire, Viva Zapata!, Spartacus, Cleopatra, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.
North received fifteen Academy Award nominations for his work as a composer. While he did not win a competitive Oscar, he was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1986, becoming the first composer to receive this honor.
