Marcel Proust (Valentin Louis Georges Eugène Marcel Proust) was a French novelist, literary critic, and essayist. He is widely regarded by critics and writers as one of the most influential authors of the twentieth century.
He is best known for his novel À la recherche du temps perdu (In Search of Lost Time), published in seven volumes between 1913 and 1927. His other notable works include Jean Santeuil and In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower.
